Multifamily Workshop: Common Area A/V Solutions
Sponsored by AT&T Connected Communities
With technology being a part of our daily lives, residents are demanding more technology based amenities on our common areas. Business Centers, Fitness Centers, Community Rooms, and even outdoor spaces are being filled with Audio, Video, and Internet based technology. Deploying this type technology can be challenging on a good day, so who's doing it right? What are some solutions that maximize the effect, but at the same time, don't break the bank. This panel will offer a peek at ways some owners have attempted to address the demand for connectivity and entertainment from their residents.

Speakers:
John Carter – CEO, Multimedia Solutions

Mike Smith – Director Building Technology Services, Forest City Enterprises

What Would a Connected “Socially Networked” Apartment Community Look Like?
Or more important, what could it do for you? Could it send you a text, a tweet, or maybe a Facebook message when the pool hits 78 degrees or when your favorite piece of fitness equipment becomes available? What if it communicated the availability of laundry equipment in the laundry, or even better, the status of your current load of wash? Could the air conditioning or heat in your apartment kick on when Google Latitude sees that you pulled into the parking deck? What if you could give a Foursquare badge or a rent discount to the resident who conserves the most energy each month? Which of these options would create real value to your residents and your staff? Inquiring minds want to know. Do you have an inquiring mind?

Technology Due Diligence
As the multifamily market begins to heat up, owners will be looking at more acquisition opportunities. An important consideration in an acquisition is the cost of bringing the technology infrastructure up to par.

Many old communities don't have any wiring infrastructure – which means an upgrade or overbuild might be in your future. Even newer properties may have structured wiring that was poorly designed or installed, requiring upgrades you weren't counting on.

This panel is a grand opportunity to dust off your investigative skills and learn what to look for in your next acquisition.
