Monica Babine is the Senior Associate leading the Program for Digital Initiatives within DGSS. She works with business, government, economic, and community development organizations on promotion, policy and program development, research, and technical assistance to increase broadband awareness, access, and use.
Her work in this area dates back to 1990 when she participated in one of the first telecommuting demonstration projects in the country. Monica welcomes opportunities to work with partners including previously representing WSU on the USDA Stronger Economies Together program, providing broadband expertise for the WSU 530 Slide Team and she co-leads the national award winning WSU Extension Pathways to Prosperity Conference.
Monica is currently activity on several national, state and local groups including the National Telecommunications Information Administration State Broadband Leaders Network, Rural Telecommunications Congress, Inland Northwest Partners, Affiliated Tribes of Northwest Indians Telecommunication Technology Committee, Columbia Gorge Broadband Consortium, Partners for Rural Washington, WSU Economic Development Council, and the Stevens County Broadband Action Team.
Prior to joining WSU, Monica led a consulting firm focused on community and economic development for public, private and non-profit organizations. She was at a major telecommunications company in Washington for fourteen years working in operator services, accounting, marketing and public affairs.
