Myra Best

Executive Director

Myra Best currently works as project director for DigiLEARN: Digital Learning Institute. She served as special advisor to Governor Bev Perdue on e-learning and education innovation (2009-2012). In her role, she led policy and budget initiatives for education innovation and coordinated the e-Learning Commission. Prior to joining the Governor’s office, Best served as director of the Business Education Technology Alliance which established North Carolina’s first statewide Virtual Public School, a single statewide technology network for all of education (MCNC’s North Carolina Research and Education Network known as NCREN) and a single portal ( for e-learning for all of North Carolina’s citizens.

Best founded the NC Network, which is a collaborative of school districts and other partners, to implement school-based improvement, data-based decision making and facilitative leadership. During her 14 years working in public schools at all grade levels, Best was one of the first elementary level counselors in North Carolina, establishing a developmental counseling program in Greene and Wayne Counties and serving as the program director.
