John Chowdhury

John Chowdhury is the utility practice director at Fujitsu Network Communications, Inc. He develops unique network integration solutions, modernization programs and network operations offerings tailored to support utilities as they adapt their communications networks to meet new demands for scalability, reliability, standards, and security.

Recognized twice as a ‘Who’s Who in Energy’ by the Dallas Business Journal, John has dedicated his 25-year consulting career to improving electric utility and telecom business performance. John has provided strategic business and technology guidance to international energy entities in the areas of: Smart Grid/AMI/distribution automation; business case development; customer relationship management; billing; and telecommunications/wireless networks.

Prior to joining Fujitsu, John was VP of KEMA Quality (now called DEKRA) and director of Smart Grid solutions at KEMA Consulting (now called KEMA DNV), where he was instrumental in developing Smart Grid solutions for utilities in the USA, Australia, India and South America. Prior to KEMA, he was principal and solutions lead for the IBM utility consulting practice, leading development of the first Intelligent Grid solution at CenterPoint Energy in Houston. John is a respected speaker at industry conferences including DistribuTECH, Latin American Smart Metering, Smart Grid ASIA, Energy Thought Summit, NRECA TechAdvantage and UTC Telecom & Technology.

John holds a BSBA in Management Information Systems from Tulsa University, and an MBA from the University of Texas at Dallas. He is an active member of: Edison Electric Institute, GridWise Architecture Council, IEEE-Power Engineering Society, National Rural Electric Association Advisory Council and the Utilities Telecom Council. John is a member of the board of directors on the UTC Smart Network Council, as well as a founding member of Utility Innovation Council under the White House.
