James O. Crane served as a sworn member with the Metropolitan Police Department, District of Columbia from 1988 to 2013, retiring at the rank of Commander. From 2003 to 2005 he managed the District of Columbia PSAP, overseeing the transition of Police, Fire and Medical call taking responsibilities to a newly created agency and its consolidated call center. From 2007 to 2010, he was the Commanding Officer of the Special Operations Division, responsible for several specialized units as well as coordination with the US Secret Service and the Department of State in planning escort and security for the President, First Family, Vice President and foreign dignitaries.
From 2010 until 2013 he was the Commanding Officer of the Tactical Information Division, part of MPD’s Homeland Security Bureau. He also served as the Department’s Program Manager for: Closed Circuit Television monitoring and video retrieval, Acoustic Gunshot Sensors, Chemical Breath Testing Program, and Impaired Driving Enforcement.
Post MPDC, he has been employed by CTC Technology and Energy of Kensington, Maryland as a Public Safety Subject Matter Expert. He provides support to the District of Columbia’s State and Local Implementation Grant (SLIGP) program, conducting outreach and needs assessment to potential users regarding the First Responders Network Authority (FirstNet).
