President and Owner
Inteleconnect, Inc.

Stephen Mayo is one of the leading technology consultants focusing on "last mile" strategies for residential and campus environments including education, commercial, retail, and mixed use, master-planned communities, and, over the past 29 years, has implemented and managed large-scale networks for a variety of developers, service providers, companies, institutions, and communities. Steve's commercial telecommunications knowledge is strengthened by his experience with government agencies and higher education. He has provided consulting and design services for the State of Michigan in developing their strategic plan for a statewide broadband network. He developed the strategy for Indiana’s ILight2 Fiber initiative which included the award of $10 million to construct a state-wide fiber backbone interconnecting the major urban areas across the state and designed and implemented the 40-mile fiber network for the city of South Bend, Indiana which he currently manages.

Steve recently designed Clemson University’ campus network rebuild (over 700 new routers and switches) and is currently implementing a state-wide research and medical fiber network (SCLR) in South Carolina that connects the three research universities and seven major medical facilities. He is also implementing the technology strategy for the Lake Nona “Medicine City” development project in Orlando, Florida which will be home to four major medical campuses including the University of Central Florida School of Medicine, a downtown retail/commercial area and 6000 new homes all integrated into a “campus of campuses”.

From 2003 through 2005, Steve managed the triple-play, fiber-to-the-home initiative for Smart City Telecom, the Lake Buena Vista telephone company at Walt Disney World.

In 1984 Steve joined the University of Michigan to build the largest, single-site telecommunication system in the country. This included installing new conduits, fiber/copper on all three campuses, rewiring over 300 buildings and installing 13 telephone central offices and remote switching centers. He was responsible for all telephone, Internet, data, and video services and systems for students, faculty, staff and medical centers (approx. 35,000 voice and 28,000 data lines). Steve also spent two years as the Associate Vice President of Telecommunications at Purdue University where he was responsible for the integration of the telephone, data, and video networks and staff into a converged network team to prepare Purdue to compete for national and international grants and projects. Steve’s role included reaching out to the State of Indiana and it’s communities to assist in the planning and deployment of broadband networks.

Steve served as Chief Operating Officer for CampusLink Communications Systems, Inc. (1996-1998) where he was responsible for all operations of the company, which provided out-sourced information technology systems and services to colleges, universities, and off-campus student housing complexes (MDUs). This included the design, construction, and implementation of fiber/copper infrastructure, PBXs, LANs, and private CATV systems. Prior to its acquisition by PaeTec Communications of Rochester, NY in 1999, CampusLink was providing triple-play services to over 40,000 customers across the country.
