Dan Phythyon is a Senior Telecommunications Policy Specialist in the Office of Public Safety Communications at the National Telecommunications & Information Administration, within the Department of Commerce. He works on implementation of the legislation that established a nationwide public safety broadband network.
Prior to joining NTIA in November 2012, Dan served in a number of key communications policy roles in Washington, DC, including as the Chief of the Policy, Planning, and Analysis Division within the U.S. Department of Homeland Security's Office of Emergency Communications (OEC), as Chief of the Federal Communications Commission's Wireless Bureau, and as Director of the FCC's Office of Legislative Affairs. Dan has also spent time on Capitol Hill, both as a lobbyist for broadcast and telecom trade associations and as Counsel to the Senate Commerce Committee.
Dan received his Juris Doctor (JD) degree from Cornell University and his Bachelor's degree in Political Science and History from Westminster College.
