Brian Proffit is Director of Research & Education for Zayo Group, and in seven years with Zayo he has served as lead in many of Zayo’s efforts in developing Public Private Partnerships for Broadband Infrastructure. He has worked extensively in developing relationships with Internet2, the Federal Research Communities and the Regional Research & Education Networks, leading to Zayo’s successful partnership in numerous BTOP projects.
Brian provides an advisory role within Zayo on policy matters in Higher Education, State & Local Government, E-Rate and Municipal Broadband. He has drafted comments on Zayo’s behalf as part of the E-Rate Modernization Act, encouraging rule changes allowing local control and scalability through dark fiber deployment. Additionally, he has lead Zayo’s engagement in the National First Responders Interoperability Network (FirstNet).
A fifteen-year veteran of the telecommunications industry, he is a strong advocate for Public-Private-Partnership for Broadband Infrastructure and has provided thought leadership for numerous projects in State & Local Government. He has spoken on these topics at conferences for Internet2, the Schools, Hospitals & Libraries Broadband (SHLB) Coalition, and numerous State & Regional R&E events. He has also lead Zayo’s engagement in the National First Responders Interoperability Network (FirstNet). Prior to telecom, he was President of Profitable Solutions, Inc., a firm specializing in public safety wireless communications infrastructure.
