Rep. Albert Sommers

2017-2018 House Majority Whip
Wyoming House of Representatives

Albert Sommers has lived on a Sublette County ranch all of his life. His four grandparents were early homesteaders in the Green River Valley. Sommers graduated with honors from the University of Wyoming in 1981 with a Bachelor of Science degree in Electrical Engineering. After university, he returned home to help run the family ranch.

In 2012, Sommers was elected to represent the citizens of House District 20 in the Wyoming Legislature. In his previous two terms, he was appointed to the Minerals/Business/Economic Development and Education committees. Currently, Representative Sommers serves as House Majority Whip, and as a member of the Joint Appropriations Committee.

In November 2016, Wyoming Governor Matt Mead created the ENDOW Initiative (Economically Needed Diversity Options for Wyoming), citing the need for a comprehensive approach to diversify the Wyoming economy. Sommers has recently been appointed to serve on ENDOW’s Broadband Advisory Council, which will develop a broadband plan for the state of Wyoming.
