Christopher Ali, Ph.D.

Dr. Christopher Ali is an Associate Professor in the Department of Media Studies at the University of Virginia and a Faculty Fellow with the Benton Institute for Broadband and Society. He holds a PhD from the Annenberg School for Communication at the University of Pennsylvania. He is currently writing a book on rural broadband policy called Farm Fresh Spectrum: Rural broadband and the future of connectivity due out in 2021. He has spent the last three years traveling the country talking with rural broadband providers and learning from communities about rural broadband options. Christopher is also the author of a New York Times editorial on rural broadband policy, and the author of the book Media Localism: The Policies of Place, which addressed the difficulties of defining and regulating local media in the 21st century in the United States, United Kingdom, and Canada.
