Sid Nurkin

Former President
Cullasaja HOA

Sid Nurkin received his degree in electrical engineering in 1963 and his law degree in 1966, both from Duke University. He practiced corporate law in Atlanta, Georgia for forty years, retiring at the end of 2006 as a senior partner in the Atlanta-based international law firm of Alston & Bird LLP. His practice focused on mergers and acquisitions, both public and private, private equity, corporate finance and corporate governance. He served as the Chair of the Corporate and Banking Law Section of the State Bar of Georgia, a member of the American Bar Association Committee on Corporate Laws, and as a member of other State of Georgia and national Bar committees. He was named by Atlanta Magazine as one of the top ten lawyers in Georgia, and Georgia Trend magazine named him among the “legal elite” of Georgia.

In 2000, Sid and his wife built a lovely mountain home in Cullasaja, a residential golf community of approximately 290 homes in Highlands, NC. He became an active participant in the life of Highlands and Cullasaja, serving as a member of the Board of Governors of the Cullasaja Club and as a member of the Board and President of the Cullasaja Homeowners Association. When Cullasaja was faced with a difficult and frustrating situation with local broadband service, Sid conceived the idea of Cullasaja building its own fiber-to-the-home network. Drawing on both his legal skills and his life-long interest in all things technical, he led Cullasaja to build that network, now known as CullasajaNet. CullasajaNet went live in May 2019, and currently provides 250 Mbps of synchronous internet service to all of the homes and facilities in Cullasaja.
