Harrison Hiner is a legislative-political coordinator and senior campaign lead for Communications Workers of America (CWA). CWA is a labor union representing telecommunications workers but also represents a diverse range of workers in industries that include health care, manufacturing, airlines, and public employees.
Hiner is currently the Texas coordinator for CWA’s Broadband Brigade, which is a nationwide campaign to solve broadband inequity issues and to include labor standards and accountability measures within digital inclusion programs at the federal, state, and municipal levels. CWA has long advocated for high-speed internet access as a universal right, starting with its Speed Matters program in 2006.
Along with his work at CWA, Hiner has over 12 years of experience in the labor movement and in Texas politics. He has organized state employees and automotive manufacturing employees for better wages and benefits. He has lobbied in the Texas Legislature for pro-worker policies such as raising wages and increasing access to state services, as well as stopping the outsourcing of Texas call center jobs outside of the United States. He has also worked for the United Auto Workers, the Texas AFL-CIO, and the Texas State Employees Union-CWA Local-6186.
Hiner is a native of Pittsburg, Texas, a small city in Northeast Texas. He attended the University of Arkansas, and currently lives in Austin.
