Tom Counts has been a founder of four separate startups over his career, three of them selling to strategic and equity partners. His core focus has been in the telecommunications and utility industries, and Velox LCC, his newest venture, represents taking his knowledge of telecom network design and optimization to the actual construction of the physical network. In doing so, he intends to leverage the best of design and optimization to create the most efficient and effective constructed network delivered by a family of Velox team members.
Counts still works every day, advising Velox on multiple fronts as well as mentoring several other startups. As a CEO, he believes firmly that enterprise value is the cornerstone of every decision of a company, and if EV isn’t the final answer, then another direction should be taken. That paradigm has driven, and continues to drive, enterprise excellence. He is excited about what Velox will mean to the modern telecom network operator!
Foundational to enterprise value for Velox is “The Velox Way” — the culture of the organization that is more than a tag-line, it is a commitment to the corporate lifestyle. ”The Velox Way” is integrity, expertise, and efficiency centered around a God-centered, family-based view of corporate life. “If we can’t approach business in The Velox Way, we don’t approach it at all.”
Outside of the office, Counts is working to give back to his community. He is or has been involved with his local Chambers of Commerce, the Decatur/Morgan County Entrepreneurial Center, teaching in the local CEO Program, judging for the Alabama LaunchPad, Tennessee Valley Corridor, the Decatur Downtown Redevelopment Authority, Leadership Alabama, NEW-STEM advocate (Non-Traditional Emerging Workforce in Science Technology, Engineering and Mathematics), Athens State Technical Advisory Board, Decatur Utilities Board, Alabama Robotics Technology Park Board, and is a member of several commercial boards of directors. He also funds and helps manage a scholarship at the University of Alabama in Huntsville for Decatur residents to promote and encourage local students to stay local and work local.
Counts holds a B.S. in chemistry and biology from the University of Alabama in Huntsville. He and his wife, Suzanne, are the proud parents of one Auburn graduate and another current Auburn student.
