He worked with NTT Telecommunications Labs. over 20 years and, NEC Submarine Optical Transmission System Business Unit and Corning International, Japan. He was a vice chairman of ITU-T SG15(2001-2004), ITU-T TSAG(2005-2012) and a Guest Professor of Waseda University. He is currently the chair of IEC/SC86C (Fibre Optic Systems and active Devices). He holds Ph. D and E-MBA degrees.
