ADB lowers costs for FTTH with simple GPON Install

Geneva - Advanced Digital Broadcast (ADB), a supplier of advanced solutions for the connected home, launched its Gigabit Passive Optical Network (GPON) solution to streamline fiber-to-the-home installation and reduce deployment costs.

The solution features an ONT (Optical Network Terminal) socket and connects over Gigabit Ethernet to any third-party router to dramatically reduce operators’ TCO and ultimately boost adoption of superior, ultra-broadband, fiber-based, triple-play services. Operators can couple the socket with a new service router, the ADB VV5522, to maximize performance and benefits.

Fiber Termination Separated from Residential Gateway

The new ONT socket is an elegant, small, wall-mountable device that piggybacks over a passive fiber wall outlet. Separating the fiber termination from the residential gateway allows operators to minimize expenditure by avoiding the need to swap out the ONT socket – which typically has a longer life cycle than a residential gateway – when the latter needs replacing.

The socket has been designed to make the fragile fiber cable inaccessible to the end user to prevent any accidental damage. The socket is powered via the subscriber’s router, using the 802.3af Power over Ethernet standard, eliminating the need for the traditional second power supply. It is interoperable with all major OLT (Optical Line Terminal) vendors’ products.

The new ADB VV5522 service router provides an advanced, modular software platform that supports 2 Gbps throughput and high-performance Wi-Fi for enhanced coverage. It runs ADB’s Epicentro software platform, enabling operators to deliver value-added services to the subscriber. ADB’s GPON ONT socket and VV5522 router are available now to operators.
