Affärsverken Upgrades Muni Fiber Network in Sweden

  • FTTH
STOCKHOLM - Affärsverken, a utility in Karlskrona, Sweden, is upgrading about 7,000 ports in the municipal network that serves schools, local government offices, and other public facilities.

The company selected PacketFront's ASR6000 router "because of its ability to deliver customized services,” according to Jan Lindqvist, Affärsverken's manager of business area broadband. He adds, “In particular, the ASR6000 feature for authenticating and enabling different services for different end users, such as teachers and students in the school part of the network, were key features in selecting the platform.’’

The ASR6000 provides Gigabit Ethernet ports and layer-3 wire speed switching, as well as full IPv6 compliance. It can be easily integrated with standard authentication services to provide complete service control — even for individual adapted services. The solution provides an efficient mix of municipal control over services and network operator control over infrastructure.
