With demand for high-speed ultra-broadband access rising, Swisscom has set itself the target of offering the fastest residential broadband service in Switzerland. With the deployment of Alcatel-Lucent’s versatile and high capacity Intelligent Service Access Manager fixed ultra-broadband access technology, Swisscom can now offer higher-quality, higher-bandwidth video services, reaching more than one million residential customers. This will take Swisscom closer to its goal of providing ultra-broadband access to 85 percent of all homes and businesses by 2020.
Alcatel-Lucent has also provided its leading professional services expertise to Swisscom, including planning, rollout and installation services to help streamline logistics and ensure Swisscom’s timetables could be met effectively.
Key Facts:
- Alcatel-Lucent has replaced Swisscom’s existing fiber network technology which offered 100 Mbps to enable services of up to 1 Gbps symmetrical data speeds – the fastest in Switzerland.
- Alcatel-Lucent deployed its 7302 Intelligent Services Access Manager (ISAM) using point-to-point gigabit Ethernet technology to offer fiber-to-the-home (FTTH) residential broadband services to more than 400’000 homes and businesses and potentially to the 1 million homes passed in towns and cities across the country.
- Supporting both copper and fiber technologies, the Alcatel-Lucent ISAM family is the most widely deployed fixed access platform in the world.
