CORNING, NY – Allied Fiber has selected Corning Incorporated, a provider of optical cable and other components that enable high-technology systems, as the optical cable supplier for the Miami to Atlanta segment of its network-neutral system build. The 754-mile Miami to Atlanta route is expected to be completed by the end of 2013.
The network-neutral system is intended to provide an abundant supply of next-generation fiber available for lease, as legacy backhaul network infrastructures can no longer support the exponential growth occurring in the industry. The end users for these physical-layer services include submarine cable systems, large wireline and wireless carriers and network operators, private enterprises, cooperatives, cable television companies and data center operators.
Corning will supply its 528-fiber SST-UltraRibbon Cable containing Corning SMF-28e+ (single-mode fiber for metro and access networks) and Corning LEAF optical fibers for high capacity, broad system flexibility.
Planned future phases of the Allied Fiber network will encircle the U.S., with over 11,500 route miles.
