Allied Telesis Introduces EtherGRID Cloud-in-a-Rack Solution

SAN JOSE, CA — Allied Telesis, a global provider of secure IP/Ethernet switching solutions, introduced its EtherGRID application hybrid cloud delivery platform. EtherGRID, a next-generation hybrid cloud platform, is designed for enterprises and communication service providers (CSPs) that want to leverage cloud technology principles across their own infrastructures versus as a pure public cloud play.

End-consumer demand for more bandwidth, driven by OTT services, is driving CSPs to rethink how they can re-build their central offices and provide a cloud offering. The ability to offer new revenue applications securely, across a CSP network, is paramount in order to protect and leverage their existing fiber assets. As IT Enterprises strive to streamline internal operations, the ability to offer cloud-centric solutions becomes necessary to achieve operational savings as well as network scale.

“EtherGRID integrates networking, storage, compute, and virtualization for faster application delivery to end users. The vision around EtherGRID is to offer our customers the opportunity to take advantage of industry technologies in cloud and SDN/NFV, dramatically improving their current business models both from a CAPEX and OPEX viewpoint,” stated Philip Yim, senior vice president, Global Program Management. “As a networking leader, we see tremendous value in leveraging cloud principles to offer a cloud-in-a-rack solution for Enterprises and CSPs looking to enter the cloud service business."
