Allied Telesis Launches Green Media Converter Chassis

  • OLTs
SAN JOSE, CA -- Access equipment provider Allied Telesis launched the AT-CV5001, an 18-slot managed media converter chassis suitable for applications from fiber-to-the-business to factory automation. According to Allied Telesis, the new chassis offers a highly efficient power supply while staying cost-effective, resilient, cross platform compatible and scalable.

The AT-CV5001 allows companies to deploy blades as they grow, at a much lower cost than iMAP (Internet Message Access Protocol). Each blade can support a different SFP (small-form-factor pluggable) module and therefore a different infrastructure.

"The features incorporated into the AT-CV5001 are ideal because they are both energy efficient and cost effective while giving end users confidence that their applications run uninterrupted. The fact that the AT-CV5001 can be less expensive than an iMAP makes it a significant competitor to other existing chassis media converters on the market," says Nick Paredes, product marketing manager, Allied Telesis. "In particular, the power supplies found in the AT-CV5001 are extremely functional and not found in many other current media converter products, allowing for up to 20 percent reduction in power consumption."

The AT-CV-5001 has a highly efficient power supply, reducing overall power consumption of a fully loaded system from 175 Watts in the AT-CV5000 to 140 Watts. This, coupled with the new eco-friendly modules launched in 2009, which themselves save more than 30 percent of power over previous models, results in significant power savings. Compared with a 2009 model, the 2010 model, including a new chassis, PSU and blades, consumes 20 percent less power.

The power supplies replace the system components without shutting down the system altogether, reducing system down time. As part of the functionality upgrade, the AT-CV5001 also allows virtually any mix of alternating circuit or direct circuit power supplies with up to two redundant management cards.

The AT-CV5001 offers Fast Ethernet or Gigabit Media Conversion and supports all fiber types.  It also has the ability to undertake remote configurations and uploads and has resilient management support.

The AT-CV5001 is currently available from Allied Telesis and the price will remain the same as the AT-CV5000 chassis and power supplies.
