ATLANTA - Armstrong, a cable provider in Pennsylvania, Ohio, West Virginia, Kentucky and Maryland, has now deployed 100 RFoG VHubs from Aurora Networks. Deploying RFoG, a fiber-to-the-home technology designed for cable providers, is a key part of Armstrong's successful subscriber growth strategy.

Aurora Networks’ VHub technology, which is based on remote nodes, has enabled Armstrong to maximize its network’s reach into rural areas, enabling it to launch services to new subscribers and support existing subscribers’ ever-growing demands for bandwidth-hungry services. The VHub technology, first deployed in RFoG architectures in 2006, enables cable operators to overcome traditional limitations of RFoG deployment - reach, fiber-intensive transport and no efficient route redundancy.

“Our RFoG deployments have reduced routine plant maintenance and energy bills while significantly improving network reliability,” says Mike Giobbi, CTO, Armstrong. “With its flexibility and scalability, Aurora Networks’ VHub technology has provided us with the opportunity to deliver today’s advanced video and data services with the quality of service and experience our subscribers have come to demand. In addition, it provides a smooth transition to the deployment of future IP-based services.”

“Armstrong was an early RFoG pioneer, adopting the architecture to reach new customers and to meet their subscribers’ growing demand for high bandwidth services," comments John Dahlquist, vice president, marketing, Aurora Networks. “The low population density of most of Armstrong’s serving area makes RFoG, in particular, a very cost-effective architecture selection.”
