ATLANTA — In keeping with its initiative to expand its ultra-fast AT&T GigaPower fiber network nationwide, AT&T has confirmed several significant market expansions.

Georgia Expansions
AT&T confirmed four new market expansions in Georgia for its AT&T GigaPower network: Newnan, Dacatur, Sandy Springs and Atlanta. The all-fiber network will deliver Internet speeds up to 1 gigabit per second, and AT&T’s most advanced TV services to consumers and small businesses

Chicago Expansion
In addition to the Georgia markets AT&T announced that it will also deliver its AT&T GigaPower network to the city of Chicago. “We are working to make Chicago the most wired city in the world, and it is great news that AT&T is bringing its ultra-high speed fiber network to Chicago,” said Mayor Rahm Emanuel. “This important digital infrastructure investment will bring opportunity for Chicago residents, businesses and visitors, who all stand to benefit from this new service.”

Local residents and small businesses on the AT&T GigaPower network will also experience cutting-edge TV services with the ability to watch and record five simultaneous HD streams, and AT&T’s largest capacity DVR with a 1 terabyte hard drive.

Current GigaPower Cities
On April 21, 2014, AT&T announced a major initiative to expand its GigaPower fiber network to up to 100 candidate cities and municipalities throughout 25 markets nationwide. To date, U-verse with AT&T GigaPower has launched to tens of thousands of customer locations across the Austin, Dallas and Fort Worth markets. The AT&T GigaPower network will also be delivered to the Atlanta, Charlotte, Cupertino, Greensboro, Houston, Jacksonville, Fla., Miami, Nashville, Overland Park, Kan., Raleigh-Durham, San Antonio, St. Louis and Winston-Salem markets.

Additionally, AT&T has committed that upon approval of its proposed acquisition of DIRECTV, the company will expand the AT&T GigaPower network to an additional 2 million customer locations. All of these 2 million locations are over and above what the company announced in April.
