Average US Household Will Have 5 to 10 Web-Enabled Devices by 2014

SCOTTSDALE, AZ — More than 53 million U.S. broadband households now watch TV programs over the Internet, and 85 percent of them watch those programs on multiple devices, including personal computers, TVs and mobile handsets. By 2014, according to research firm In-Stat, we'll have more than 200 million Web-enabled wireline consumer electronics devices in operation. Adding in PCs and mobile devices brings the grand total to between 5 and 10 Web-enabled devices for each household.

“Today, content is consumed in a myriad of ways over a plethora of devices,” says Keith Nissen, principal analyst at In-Stat. “The relationship between the user, the content they view and the device they watch it on has become complex. Traditional viewing habits no longer apply and, as a result, a new and amorphous set of rules has taken over.”
