SOFIA, BULGARIA - Bulgarian ISP EVO is upgrading its network with GPON technology to offer higher bandwidth and IPTV. Nokia Siemens Networks is supplying the technology for the upgrade, including the optical line terminals (central-office equipment) and the customer-premises equipment, as well as installation and maintenance services.

“Our goal is to improve the individual experience and satisfaction of our subscribers by providing new high-quality services and increasing network capacity,” says Rosen Velikov, EVO's CEO.

Nokia Siemens Networks announced three years ago that it was downplaying its GPON product line in favor of its fiber-to-the-curb solution and a next-generation (WDM-PON) optical access solution that is still in the demonstration stages. This is the first GPON customer win (to our knowledge) that NSN has announced since that time.
