PARIS – Vivacom, Bulgaria's leading communications services provider, is upgrading its broadband network using GPON equipment from Alcatel-Lucent to meet the goals of the EU’s Digital Agenda for next-generation broadband access. In addition to providing 1 million Bulgarian households with higher connection speeds and more reliable service, Vivacom also expects to reduce its operating costs.
Bulgaria supports the EU's Digital Agenda, which set goals of providing speeds of 100 Mbps to half of European households and 30 Mbps to all European households by 2020. Vivacom will provide 100 Mbps to customers in the cities of Sofia, Varna and Plovdiv in 2012, with additional cities to follow.
Bernard Moscheni, CEO of Vivacom, says, "Vivacom is successfully implementing its program for network development, focused on guaranteeing a better customer experience as well as supporting Bulgaria in meeting its commitments to the European Union. Our partnership with Alcatel-Lucent - one of the leaders in this domain - will enable us to improve our product and services offerings to our customers."
Alcatel-Lucent is providing Vivacom with its Intelligent Services Access Manager (ISAM) product family - including the Alcatel-Lucent 7302 ISAM - a cornerstone of Alcatel-Lucent’s High Leverage Network architecture.
