Calix Leverages AXOS to Deliver SDA based 10G EPON Systems in 120 Days

PETALUMA, CA — Calix, a provider of broadband communications access systems, announced the addition of 10G EPON to its AXOS eSeries systems, providing cable operators with new powerful solutions that easily integrate into their existing networks and service delivery models while giving them a seamless path to SDN.

Built on AXOS, the world’s only SDA, Calix used its Agile development approach to take advantage of this layered, componentized, and abstracted platform to usher a mature, stable, and highly flexible 10G EPON solution from development kick-off to customer demonstration in 120 days – a fraction of the time it would have taken using traditional modular software and waterfall development methods. The result is the first in a growing family of powerful AXOS 10G EPON systems that feature integrated support for OLT, routing, IP policy, and accounting functions, supporting the unique back-office environments of any cable operator. Additionally, AXOS 10G EPON systems will support the full breadth of cable operator form factor needs to support centralized, distributed, or even virtualized network deployment on a flexible timeframe that accommodates their SDN transformation plans.

Leveraging Accelerated Innovation Cycles

Available currently on the AXOS E3-2 Intelligent PON Node, Calix 10G EPON will be added to the AXOS E7-2 Modular Access System and AXOS E9-2 Intelligent Edge System in the coming months. This breadth of form factors gives cable operators support for either a centralized or distributed architecture. No matter what the density requirements or the deployment environment of a given cable operator, Calix will have an AXOS 10G EPON solution suited for their needs. And with AXOS Sandbox, cable operators can dramatically accelerate the introduction of these 10G EPON systems into their networks. AXOS Sandbox is available for download now, starting the integration and testing of actual production software releases of Calix AXOS systems virtually, without any Calix hardware.

With the combination of Calix AXOS DPx and Calix 10G EPON systems, cable operators benefit by eliminating the need to modify workflows and operations as they transition to SDN.
