China Telecom Carriers to Invest $177 Billion

JINGYUE HSIAO, TAIPEI — China Mobile, China United Network Communications and China Telecom will invest $177 billion to expand fixed-line and mobile telecom infrastructure in China between 2015 to 2017, according to China's Ministry of Industry and Information Technology (MIIT) as reported in DigiTimes.


Seventy billion dollars will be invested in 2015 to add 80 million FTTx users and expand 4G networks to more than 1.3 million base stations in total to cover all cities of varying sizes, MIIT said.

By the end of 2017, all households in main cities will be equipped with 10 Mbps FTTx connectivity, with download speeds to reach 30 Mbps in first-tier cities and 20 Mbps in second-tier ones, and 4G networks will cover all urban areas and most of the rural areas, MIIT indicated.
