METLAKTLA, BC — Residents of Metlakatla, a Native American community of about 1400 people in remote British Columbia, will now be able to experience blazing-fast Internet and reliable phone, as CityWest hooks up its newest customers with its services. “We’re happy to have CityWest here to give our members access to a great Internet experience,” said Harold Leighton, Chief Councillor of Metlakatla Indian Community. “It will allow our community to grow in the years to come.”

CityWest will be offering Metlakatla the same Internet and phone services it currently offers in other markets by using fiber-to-the-home technology. “As a company based in the North, we know how much people here have come to rely on fast Internet services,” said Don Holkestad, CEO of CityWest. “We’re very proud to offer this experience to members of the Metlakatla community.”

Pathways to Technology Inititatve
In building this network in Metlakatla, CityWest worked in partnership with the All Nations Trust Company through their Pathways to Technology inititatve, whose purpose is to connect or enhance high-speed Internet connectivity in remote First Nations communities in B.C.

“We partnered with CityWest because they’re a local company that understands what people in Northwest B.C. need, and one of those needs is fast Internet,” said Jamie Sterritt, Community Engagement Officer with All Nations Trust Company. “We are very happy to be working with them to provide great services to the community of Metlakatla.”

Metlakatla is the latest community to connect with the CityWest community. In the last year, the company has also added new customers from Gitanmaax (Old Hazelton), Kispiox, and Smithers. “We’re looking forward to many years of great service with Metlakatla, as we strive to provide them with the best customer experience possible,” said Holkestad.
