CO-MO Connect Cranks Up Speeds, Offering Gigabit Internet

  • Co-Mo Connect
TIPTON, MO — Co-Mo Connect — the fiber-to-the-home (FTTH) Internet, TV and telephone service being built throughout the Co-Mo Electric Cooperative service territory — has turned up its fastest residential Internet speed from 100 Mbps to 1 Gbps — a tenfold jump. Subscribers on the 100 Mbps plan are now receiving service at 1 Gbps — that's 1,000 Mbps — for no additional cost.

Along with the gigabit upgrade, subscribers at other Co-Mo Connect Internet tiers were turned up as well. Those at 20 Mbps jumped to 35 Mbps, and those at 50 Mbps went to 100 Mbps, each for no additional charge. Co-Mo Connect business subscribers saw similar speed upgrades.

“This isn’t a teaser rate,” said Randy Klindt, Co-Mo Connect’s general manager. “We’re not going to turn the speed back down in six months or a year if you don’t pay a whole bunch more per month. This is what are speeds are now. We believe in always-fair pricing. Everyone gets our best pricing. Always.”

Co-Mo Connect is a fast, reliable FTTH network being constructed throughout the Co-Mo Electric Cooperative service territory and operated by the cooperative’s communications subsidiary.

Fiber Services Coming to All C0-MO Customers
The four-phase plan, the first phase of which was approved in June 2012 by the cooperative’s board of directors, will make FTTH Internet, television and telephone services available to all Co-Mo Electric members — about 25,000 households and businesses. Each phase is expected to take about a year to complete. Construction on Phase 1, which reaches about half of Co-Mo Electric’s members, began in May 2013.

Signups in Phase 2, which includes areas south of Tipton and California and west of Laurie toward the Cole Camp and Warsaw areas, have begun in select areas.

Though Co-Mo will be offering gigabit speeds, most Internet devices are not currently ready for it. Because of that, the top end for most gigabit subscribers would be in the 700 to 900 Mbps range. “That is still seven to nine times faster than the next Co-Mo Connect tier and even faster than anything anyone has or is even capable of offering in our area,” Klindt said.

Prices of Co-Mo Connect services and maps of the areas covered by each phase can be found at Co-Mo Connect or by calling (800) 781-0157. The website also has a feature that allows Co-Mo members to input their electric account number and find out instantly which phase they are in.
