Columbia, MO Tabs Magellan for Broadband Plan

DENVER, CO – Columbia, Missouri has selected Magellan Advisors, a broadband and telecom consulting firm, to assess its broadband needs and develop a broadband strategic plan. The project will identify strategies and tactics to help secure next-generation broadband capabilities for the city of Columbia and the surrounding area, in conjunction with the University of Missouri, the project also calls for a plan that will be sustainable well in to the future. “We are excited about this project and the opportunity to establish an effective plan which will guide Columbia in achieving a world class broadband infrastructure which can support economic development, community and job growth well in to the future,” stated Mike Matthes, city manager. Matthes further stated that the study is an outgrowth of the Regional Economic Development (REDI) Strategic Plan that identifies the need for a Broadband strategy to support job growth in Columbia.

Magellan’s study will conduct a thorough needs assessment for Columbia over the long-term and identify the appropriate broadband infrastructure and services that will be required to meet the needs of the community.

Magellan’s expert team of broadband consultants will help the city of Columbia determine what true high speed broadband can provide for its community, in terms of economic impact, competitiveness and job growth. The plan will provide Columbia and the University of Missouri with a road map to enhance broadband in its community through evaluation of wise public investments in infrastructure, broadband-oriented public policy, strategic public-private partnerships and collaboration with stakeholders, community anchor institutions, and service providers.
