NEW HAVEN, CT — Comcast Business has expanded its fiber network to projects in Pittston, Penn., and New Haven, Conn.

Pittston, PA — CenterPoint Commerce & Trade Park
Comcast Business announced that its full portfolio of business services, including its multi-Gigabit Ethernet service, is now available across CenterPoint Commerce & Trade Park in Pittston, Penn. Through this investment, all current and prospective tenants in CenterPoint East and West have immediate access to up to 10 Gbps of network performance and services designed to help companies of all sizes take advantage of the latest technology and competitive choice.

“Network capacity and performance are increasingly becoming the main engines driving businesses as they strive for a competitive edge,” said Christine Whitaker, senior vice president of Comcast’s Keystone Region. “This fiber expansion at CenterPoint, the largest of its kind in the Keystone Region, is the latest example of the significant investments we’ve made to increase the availability of our multi-Gigabit Ethernet services to help foster economic development and drive competition, innovation and value for our customers. We look forward to continuing to expand these services so businesses of all sizes can take advantage of the scalability and performance our vast network can offer.”

The 1,800-acre CenterPoint Commerce & Trade Park is situated in Jenkins and Pittston Townships in the center of the Scranton/Wilkes-Barre metro area and currently is home to 38 companies, including FedEx Ground, J.P. Boden, Kimberly-Clark, Lowe's, Neiman Marcus, Corning, QuietFlex Manufacturing, the Home Depot, The Men's Wearhouse, Benco Dental, Bimbo Bakeries and Emery Waterhouse, among others. Approximately 4,500 people work in CenterPoint.

“This major investment by Comcast ties perfectly into our ReadyToGo! Program,” said Mericle President Robert K. Mericle. “Quite often, speed to occupancy is what wins job-creating projects. Through ReadyToGo, we are fully preparing dozens of sites and constructing a variety of bulk industrial, flex, and office buildings in the park. Now, thanks to Comcast, current and future tenants will have immediate access to a wide variety of telecommunications products and services. We’ll be able to get companies up and running in new buildings with state-of-the art telecommunications faster than almost any other business location in the Northeast.”

With this announcement, companies in CenterPoint can now take advantage of four different types of Comcast Business multi-Gigabit Ethernet services, including:

  • Ethernet Private Line – point-to-point service between two customer sites for bandwidth-intensive applications.

  • Ethernet Virtual Private Line – point-to-multipoint service that allows customers to tailor capacity, performance characteristics and cost to meet the needs of their applications.

  • Ethernet Network Service – multipoint-to-multipoint service to connect organizations with high-bandwidth requirements and multiple locations across Comcast’s network.

  • Ethernet Dedicated Internet – continuous, high-capacity service between customers’ LANs and the public Internet.

All of Comcast’s multi-Gigabit Ethernet services are delivered over an advanced network that spans 145,000 miles and features a 100 Gbps backbone and expanded local footprint through Ethernet over HFC. Bandwidth is available up to 10 Gbps and can be scaled in increments and offered in three different classes of service, backed by service level agreements and monitored 24x7x365 from Comcast’s dedicated Network Operations Centers. Comcast was the first service provider in the world to offer Metro Ethernet Forum CE 2.0 certified Ethernet services and was also the first service provider to achieve all three of the previous CE 1.0 certifications (MEF 9, 14 and 18).

New Haven, Connecticut — Centerplan’s College & Crown Project

Centerplan’s College & Crown project in New Haven is Comcast's first customer in Connecticut to leverage XFINITY Communities’ Advanced Communities Network to provide fiber to the unit. The XFINITY Communities business unit is focused on providing XFINITY services to apartment/condo complexes, communities with single-family homes, healthcare facilities and student housing units.

College & Crown is located in an area where New Haven’s primary business district and retail corridor meets with Yale University. The property includes 160 apartments ranging from studios to two-bedroom units and also includes 20,000 square feet of retail space and structured parking. It is located at 200 College Street, on the corner of College and Crown Streets.

XFINITY’s Advanced Communities Network is a fiber-based infrastructure that can be customized for select individual property owners, including the deployment of “move-in-ready” gigabit-capable solutions that will support gigabit speeds when DOCSIS 3.1 technology is available. All of XFINITY Communities solutions provide a path for owners to offer their residents the capability for gigabit speeds.

“Whether it’s gigabit speeds, XFINITY’s one-of-a-kind X1, digital voice or cutting-edge home security and automation, XFINITY Communities can deliver property owners with best-in-class service,” said Michael Parker, vice president of Comcast’s Western New England Region, which is based in Connecticut. “For large properties like College & Crown, we can customize delivery using the infrastructure technology that best suits the owner’s and tenants’ needs.”
