Court Upholds Decision in Favor of Aereo

NEW YORK, NY - Aereo, a service that allows viewers to watch live broadcast TV on the Internet, will be able to continue offering its services thanks to the Second Court of Appeals which upheld the District Court Decision in favor of Aereo.

In rejecting the plaintiffs - a group of 17 network broadcasters - the Court of Appeal concluded that "Aereo's transmission of unique copies of broadcast television programs created at its users' requests and transmitted while the programs are still airing on broadcast television are not public performances of the copyrighted works under Cablevision," (a previous decision).

"Today's decision from the Second Circuit Court of Appeals again validates that Aereo's technology falls squarely within the law and that's a great thing for consumers who want more choice and flexibility in how, when and where they can watch television," said Chet Kanojia, Aereo's CEO and founder.

Aereo created its service by engineering very small antennas and packing them into data centers along with massive amounts of storage and super-fast Internet connections. Users control the antenna through an interface to tune into live TV from any device. The service is currently available only in the New York metropolitan area.
