STOCKHOLM - Swedish open-access network operator Dala Energi has selected PacketFront’s Gigabit ASR6000 switch for its next round of network expansion.
Dala Energi's network covers the rural towns of Leksand, Rättvik, Gagnef and Säter in the heart of Sweden. It offers services to more than 2,000 local businesses and residential customers and provides network infrastructure for several municipalities in the region. More than 20 service providers currently deliver commercial services to the network.
Sweden made an early decision to encourage municipalities and energy utilities to build open-access networks, mainly using fiber to the home, throughout its rural areas, and as a result it is one of the best-wired countries in Europe. “A modern infrastructure with high-speed Internet and other communications services being offered to businesses and residential customers is a key factor for rural communities such as ours,” says Pär Wikström, Head of Urban Network for Dala Energi.
“The ASR6000 from PacketFront takes us into the gigabit age and enables us to provide the wide selection of high-performance services that our customers are demanding, and also gives us the benefit of efficient network operations, where the ASR6000 is a key element. In order to provide our customers with gigabit Internet, we just add the ASR6000 to our network topology and then connect customers to it. Migrating to the ASR6000 also enables us to upgrade the core network to 10 Gbps.”
