Dali Wireless RF Router Uses Existing GPON Infrastructures to Provide Cellular Coverage

  • Dali Wireless
MENLO PARK, CA — Dali Wireless, a global provider of the advanced digital end-to-end RF Router that transcends DAS and drives software defined networking (SDN) to the antenna, announced that its patented platform can integrate seamlessly with gigabit passive optical networks (GPON).

GPON is a fiber distribution network that uses passive splitters. This enables one single feeding fiber from the providers’ central office to deliver high-speed and high bandwidth broadband to residential and commercial buildings. GPON is an attractive option for service providers to bring greater bandwidth to their customers and to offer enhanced triple- and quad-play services including HD voice and next-gen TV services. GPON allows end users to experience massively improved data transfer speeds and enhanced home security.

Greater Wireless Reach and Capacity without Signal Degradation
In GPON architecture, a single fiber and optical splitters are used to carry the IP traffic to multiple homes and enterprises. As a result, GPON has stringent optical link budget requirement. With current analog or hybrid-digital Distributed Antenna Systems (DAS) on the market, optical link budget degrades rapidly due to passive splitters and the distance between the head-end and the radio remotes. This ultimately leads to signal degradation and less bandwidth to the users making conventional systems not a viable option. Dali Wireless’ all-digital RF Router allows more efficient data transfer, more data throughput and a greater reach without signal degradation and interference over the GPON network. This enables RF Router to leverage existing GPON infrastructure to rapidly provide cellular coverage and capacity.

In addition, with Dali’s RF Router, Wi-Fi access points can be added to Dali’s radio remotes in a plug-and-play approach to support network offloading and to carry IP traffic. It supports all IP appliances including video surveillance, digital announcement systems, mobile advertising, and more.

“The wireless needs of enterprises, whether it’s a hotel, convention center or an educational institution, are changing so rapidly that traditional solutions just cannot catch up,” said Albert Lee, chief executive officer at Dali Wireless. “The all-digital platform can leverage the existing fiber of the GPON network for fast deployment to rapidly enhance cellular coverage and capacity. This is something analog systems cannot achieve due to the high optical budget requirements.”

Traditionally, GPON, DAS and Wi-Fi access points are installed separately through multiple cabling systems. This results in a huge amount of redundancy, making coordination and installation more complex, time-consuming and costly. With Dali’s RF Router, high-speed and high bandwidth internet, seamless cellular coverage and capacity, and IP appliances can share the same network infrastructure, saving significant capital and operational expenditure. This simplified infrastructure also reduces the complexity of installation and operation.
