PENFIELD, NY –The New York State Department of Public Service (DPS), in accordance with the New York State Comprehensive Broadband Connectivity Act of May 26, 2021, has engaged Penfield, NY based ECC Technologies, Inc. (ECC) to complete comprehensive broadband focused project in New York State.
The project encompasses the mapping and documentation of broadband infrastructure and services in New York State. The result of the completed project will provide interactive access, at an address level, information on broadband infrastructure, services, competition, and adoption statewide.
The project, which is currently underway, includes a multiphase approach to understanding the broadband environment in New York. ECC is conducting an outside plant (OSP) telecommunications inventory of the state, documenting infrastructure which supports broadband.
A dedicated Internet site – www.empirestatebroadband.com – has been developed to allow residents and businesses within the state, to complete a questionnaire to support the project.
The result of this work will include detailed reports for each county within New York State. The reports will outline the current state of broadband including graphical information system (GIS) mapping, service provider infrastructure analysis, and the identification of gaps between served and unserved/underserved addresses.
Another key deliverable is the development of an interactive website for public access to meet the criteria as defined in the Comprehensive Broadband Connectivity Act. The groundbreaking project is believed to be the first of its kind in the United States and is projected to be substantially completed by mid-year 2022.
