CHICAGO - The increasing scale and success of the fiber-based video and high-speed data services offered by the large U.S. telephone companies continued to stabilize consumer segment revenues during the third quarter of 2009, according to a special report issued by Fitch Ratings.

Fitch says that Verizon Communication's FiOS service revenue totaled more than $1.4 billion during the third quarter of 2009, increasing 56 percent over the third quarter of last year as Verizon's consumer wireline revenues increased 1.2 percent on a year-over-year basis. The pace of AT&T's in-region consumer segment revenues decline slowed to 5.5 percent on a year-over-year basis during the third quarter of 2009. Revenues generated from AT&T's consumer broadband and U-verse service represent 32.4 percent of AT&T's consumer wireline revenues, up from 23.2 percent during the same period last year.
