TORONTO – Fiber optic equipment supplier GAO Fiber Optics launched a new single-fiber fusion splicer that detects the fiber end-face and adjusts parameters automatically. The splicer is designed for dispersion-shifted fiber (DSF), non-zero dispersion-shifted fiber (NZ-DSF), and erbium-doped fiber (EDF).

GAO730-Single-Fiber-Fusion-SplicerThe model 730 fusion splicer features simultaneous X and Y views, 256x magnification and a reversible monitor and a control panel on each side. It has a short splicing time of eight seconds, and a tube heating time (sleeve shrinking time) of 40 seconds. The typical splice loss is only 0.1dB to 0.3dB.

With a large memory capacity, the splicer stores 8,000 groups of splice results. It automatically adjusts to environmental conditions using built-in temperature, humidity and pressure sensors that provide constant feedback signals to control the fusion arc temperature.
