ROSWELL, GA and HAYNEVILLE, AL — "Get Wired Alabama," an open access, high-speed Internet service, has gone live bringing high-speed next generation open access telecommunication to 17 rural Alabama counties and over 250,000 homes and businesses. "Get Wired Alabama" has contracted with COS Service Zones System of Umea Sweden for its open access infrastructure management system.

"Get Wired Alabama" came about as a public private partnership (joint venture) between Oasis Construction Services and South Central Alabama Broadband Commission (SCABC). The ultimate goal of the joint venture is to establish a community owned and privately operated high-speed broadband communications infrastructure that will foster economic development and ensure that all citizens and all businesses in the SCABC district have access to the very best telecommunications services available.

The public private partnership will provide broadband utility services within a 17-county area in South Central Alabama, including the impoverished Black Belt Region of Alabama. The following counties will benefit from this project: Lowndes, Macon, Dallas, Butler, Bullock, Crenshaw, Conecuh, Escambia, Montgomery, Wilcox, Perry, Hale, Greene, Pickens, Sumter, Marengo and Choctaw. Network operations will be performed by Oasis Alabama Broadband, a special purpose subsidiary of Oasis, which will be locally staffed to maintain the infrastructure. Beneficiaries of this project, who will acquire faster speed Internet, include households as well as the following municipal and private sectors: city halls and city sites, county administration and county sites, libraries, school administration facilities and buildings, healthcare, parks, churches and businesses.
