Google Exits Linear Video Market, Launches TV Streaming Service

MOUNTAIN VIEW, CA — Google Fiber announced that it will no longer offers a linear TV product to new customers. Current TV customers will continue to received traditional TV service.

The company has a new TV streaming service that launches today. Customers can sign up for fuboTV at the same time they sign up for the Google Fiber service. This is particularly of interest to sports fans. fuboTV offers more than 35,000 live sporting events each year. It also offers popular TV shows, movies and news. The base package alone has more than 100 live channels and more than 30,000 TV episodes and movies on demand every month. Included is cloud DVR and the ability to stream simultaneously on multiple screens.

Google's partnership with fuboTV is in addition to the one with YouTube TV, announced in December. Now, new Google Fiber customers have at least two options to choose how they want to get live and on-demand programming. Additionally, there is also the option of accessing any other streaming service over Google Fiber internet.
