Grover Beach, CA Begins Construction on Fiber Network

GROVER BEACH, CA – Construction has recently begun on a new fiber optic network to bring high speed internet connectivity to Grover Beach as part of the city’s economic development strategy. Digital West Networks, provider of IT infrastructure and cloud services, is expanding its fiber optic network beyond San Luis Obispo into Grover Beach. Digital West is partnering with the City and the County of San Luis Obispo to deliver this much needed infrastructure to City and County public services, area businesses, and residences.

On May 16, 2016, the Grover Beach City Council approved the initial phase of a 10-year fiber agreement to bring this high-speed fiber optic connectivity to the area’s 727 businesses. Grover Beach’s proximity to the Pacific Crossing cable landing station, which connects networks across the world through transoceanic cables, gives businesses direct access to North and South American, Asian and other international markets. Digital West’s fiber connectivity throughout the region and to the cable landing station will drive businesses to Grover Beach and be a valuable asset to the communities connected to fiber.

Public-private Partnership
As part of this public-private partnership, Digital West will place new fiber optic cable in key commercial and industrial areas with multiple connection points while the City of Grover Beach will own the installed conduit infrastructure. Digital West will manage and market the new broadband network and the City will receive a portion of service revenues. Construction by Leo Tidwell Excavating Company began in late August and will be completed later this year.

“Construction of the broadband fiber network is a major milestone for the City of Grover Beach and will help strengthen our economic base and attract new businesses,” said Grover Beach Mayor John Shoals. “We value our partnership with Digital West and the County of San Luis Obispo in bringing this important project to the community.”

“The speed and reliability of our pure fiber network has the potential to position Grover Beach as the ‘silicon dunes’ on the West Coast,” said Tim Williams, CEO of Digital West. “We fully expect that Grover Beach will create new jobs as new businesses decide to relocate here.”
