GTC Wins FTTH Contract for Oxfordshire Housing Development

OXFORDSHIRE, UK - GTC will roll out future-proofed fiber broadband to more than 1,000 new properties in Upper Heyford. A contract has been awarded for the provision of fiber-to-the-home (FTTH) broadband infrastructure to redeveloped Ministry of Defense land at Upper Heyford in Oxfordshire.

GTC, a member of the UK District Energy Association, has been chosen to deliver FTTH, gas and electricity networks for all new households at the site, which is being developed by Bovis Homes and the Dorchester Group. Ultrafast broadband will be rolled out to each of the 1,134 new housing plots, with GTC set to use its expertise to oversee both the removal of existing outdated infrastructure and the installation of new connections. GTC's fiber optic broadband solution was picked for the project in order to provide householders in the area with the fastest possible speeds at the lowest cost.

Paul Summers, regional sales manager at GTC, explained FTTH differs from fiber-to-the-cabinet technology because performance does not suffer as distance from the exchange increases. "Laying fiber optic cable right to each home ensures homeowners will be able to enjoy the best of today's fiber offerings and know that the network is future-proofed to support further advances in technology."
