SMITHSON VALLEY, TX — GVTC residential and business customers now have access to among the fastest Internet speeds available in the United States. The Hill Country-based communications provider has unleashed 1 gigabit Internet speeds to customers connected to its fiber network.

GVTC's giga footprint involves 2,200 miles of fiber optics across a 2,000 square mile area, which includes parts of Far North San Antonio, the Texas Hill Country and the Gonzales, TX area. The GVTC is among the first to deliver gigabit speeds across such a vast region.

Currently, more than 40,000 rooftops are connected to GVTC's fiber network. The company is in the process of expanding fiber to an additional 2,600 homes in select residential neighborhoods.

GVTC GigaRegion Formed as a Private-Public Partnership
In June GVTC revealed it would launch gigabit speeds to its service area during the announcement of the GVTC GigaRegion. The GVTC GigaRegion is a unique private-public partnership among GVTC and the cities of Boerne, Bulverde and Gonzales. A marketing campaign to promote the GVTC GigaRegion across the country is underway. The goal is to generate economic development and appeal to residents seeking access to faster Internet speeds, while enjoying the lifestyle of a smaller community.

"There's been a lot of talk about bringing gigabit Internet speeds to the area and I'm proud to say GVTC delivered in a matter of weeks after announcing our commitment," GVTC President and CEO, Ritchie Sorrells, said. "Our partner cities in the GVTC GigaRegion have a valuable asset they can use now to compete for the types of jobs that will help their communities grow and prosper."
