CHRISTCHURCH, NEW ZEALAND - Enable Services Limited announced a partnership with Huawei New Zealand to supply the fiber equipment for Christchurch’s ultrafast fiber broadband network and for services to manage operations and maintenance.

The multimillion-dollar contract covers the provision of all network equipment, including fiber
ducting, fiber optic cables and open-access, Layer 2 network solutions. It will also provide the
service expertise required for the 3,500-kilometer network.

John Humm, general network manager for Enable Services, says Huawei won the contract thanks to its track record in delivering fiber infrastructure, its reputation for quality products, its commitment to New Zealand, its professionalism and its delivery timeframes.

This contract is the second major partnership in New Zealand for Huawei. The company won a
similar contract late last year to build a network for Ultrafast Fibre in the Hamilton/Central
North Island region.

Huawei will supply the optical equipment, including microtube ducting and optical fiber cables, as
well as open-access Ethernet network solutions. The access network will use GPON and Gigabit P2P Ethernet technologies over the Huawei network equipment and a Metro Ethernet switching system. It will be managed with Huawei’s unified Network Management System.
