Is Your County on the Fastest 25 Broadband List?

NORTHFIELD, MN — Nassau County, N.Y., tops a new list of counties with the 25 fastest Internet connections, measured by a new national broadband connectivity and usage database. According to actual speed and carrier data generated by ID Insight’s BroadBand Scout database, Nassau County boasts a median download speed of 15.0 Mbps and a median upload speed of 4.4 Mbps.

Since it launched in December, BroadBand Scout has provided connectivity, speed and carrier data to communities and broadband carriers applying for funding from the broadband stimulus program. BroadBand Scout analyzes the millions of records in ID Insight’s proprietary databases, which were initially assembled to track Internet usage.

The counties on ID Insight’s Fastest 25 list include:

“We thought it was vital to create the Fastest 25 list because you can look most anywhere and hear about how much speed is available, but that’s not the only point,” says ID Insight president Adam Elliott. “It is also critical to understand how much of this available speed is actually being consumed. The Fastest 25 list ranks the counties that have done the hard work to deliver higher speeds, and are embracing the benefits that can be realized by transacting at higher speeds. Their residents are using these services to improve their everyday lives and their business processes. We’d like to congratulate those counties that made our inaugural Fastest 25 list.”

By combining known Internet access information with address-related data, BroadBand Scout helps communities and carriers complete stimulus proposals. The information also helps carriers cost-effectively target new areas for service expansion and research their competition.
