, the economic development non-profit organization focused on technology and broadband infrastructure in Westminster, MD, announced that the recent Carroll County Hackathon, jointly sponsored by MAGIC, McDaniel College, Carroll Community College, and ByteLion, has placed participants into internships and part time jobs as a result of their performance during the Hackathon.

“We loved taking part in the Carroll County Hackathon. We had a chance to meet risk takers and technology enthusiasts. As a result of the competition, we hired two individuals and have three interns actively developing software for customers around the world,” said Terry MacGregor, president of ByteLion.

MAGIC measures its economic development impact on three outcomes: job creation, new company creation or recruitment and new investment dollars into the community.

A Platform to Expose Ideas and Talent
“Students, as budding professionals, need what MAGIC and the Hackathon have provided: inspiration to create, the opportunity to work with a team of talented and creative individuals, and a platform to expose ideas and talent. MAGIC’s Hackathon delivered that and more. I am especially excited that two Carroll Community College students landed jobs as a result of the Hackathon. It can’t get much better than that for our students,” said Dr. James Ball, president of Carroll Community College.

“We are thrilled with the Hackathon. It was great to see McDaniel students working together with students from local high schools and the Community College to create an incredible range of projects. Several of our students are turning this experience into internships and jobs here in Carroll County,” said Dr. Bryn Upton, director of the honors program and the Encompass Distinction at McDaniel College.
