Mediacom Business Secure Wi-Fi to Iowa Speedway

DES MOINES, IA — Just one year ago, Iowa Speedway called upon Mediacom Business, a division of Mediacom Communications Corporation, to provide Gigabit+ broadband speed for nationally televised NASCAR Series, INDYCAR Series and ARCA Racing Series events. Mediacom Business delivered, and because of positive feedback from both U.S. and international news media delegations, who are constantly downloading and sending large amounts of data throughout a race day, Iowa Speedway turned to Mediacom Business to extend their business partnership and try a new broadband solution: this time to provide fans in the vicinity of the Newton Club area with reliable and secure Wi-Fi to post live comments, pictures, and video during races, as well as enjoy mobile racing apps geared to offer additional ways to consume the racing experience, according to Iowa Speedway President Jimmy Small.

“We’re fortunate that Iowa Speedway is a source for testing innovative platforms like this. We are building on our successful strategic relationship with Mediacom Business in bringing high-capacity broadband to Iowa Speedway, among the best connected tracks in the business,” Mr. Small said. “Our Newton Club members will be the first to enjoy this new service during Wide Opening Weekend June 18-19.”

The Wi-Fi connection will allow attendees in the Newton Club to also access NASCAR and INDYCAR mobile apps with features such as live leaderboards, real-time track position and driver telemetry, driver audio, in-car cameras and highlights among others that will enhance the racegoer experience.

Cisco Meraki Business Solution

Dan Templin, senior vice president of Mediacom Business, said Wi-Fi service for both indoor and outdoor sections of the Newton Club is enabled by the Cisco Meraki business solution. “Meraki provides powerful Wi-Fi, security and networking capabilities that work immediately out-of-the-box and still allow for easy customization via the web,” Mr. Templin said. “We’re excited to leverage this proven technology to expand on the race fan experience at the Iowa Speedway.”

With a simple-to-use management portal, Meraki is a straightforward, point-and-click technology to monitor or limit bandwidth to specific users or applications like streaming video, according to Mike Chernovetz, Cisco Account Manager to Mediacom Business. “With Meraki, Iowa Speedway fans will have a great experience in posting comments, pictures and video from the race. We’re excited to work with Mediacom Business to utilize Meraki with the Iowa Speedway, and we look forward to expanding this Wi-Fi concept with more of their customers.”
