Infonetics Research released excerpts from its latest "Home Networking Devices" vendor market share and forecast report, which tracks residential gateways; broadband routers; HomePlug Powerline adapters; multimedia over coax (MoCA) set-top boxes (STBs), optical network terminals (ONTs), and coax-Ethernet adapters; and HPNA/G.hn adapters.
Home Networking Market Highlights
- The global home networking device market totaled $4.9 billion in the second half of 2012 (2H12), a 5 percent increase over the first half of 2012 (1H12)
- Sales of set-top boxes with embedded MoCA technology grew 23 percent in 2H12, while MoCA adapters, though still shipping in small amounts, soared 129 percent
- Broadband router revenue grew 6 percent in 2H12, thanks to shipments of higher-end WiFi routers in North America and EMEA (Europe, the Middle East, and Africa)
- In the race for broadband router revenue market share, Actiontec saw the biggest jump, up 30 percent from 1H12
- North America is the home networking device revenue share leader, capturing 45 percent of global 2H12 revenue
- Infonetics expects MoCA STBs to account for 46 percent of home networking device sales by 2017
