DENVER, CO — Megellan Advisors announced two new clients for whom they will be providing comprehensive broadband feasibility studies.

Morristown Utility Systems and Appalachian Electric Coop
Morristown Utility Systems (MUS) and Appalachian Electric Cooperative (AEC), both serving markets in Eastern Tennessee, will work with Magellan Advisors to examine the feasibility of leveraging their current fiber-optic network to expand and improve broadband for municipal operations, businesses, education, healthcare, community anchors and residents throughout the Lake Way Region of East Tennessee. Magellan’s staff has planned and developed fiber optic networks in over 100 communities across the U.S., and will bring their real world experience to develop a study that delivers realistic, actionable steps going forward for MUS-AEC and the entire region. Magellan is the nation’s leading broadband planning and IT consulting firm, with a staff of expert broadband planners and consultants having a combined 200-plus years of experience in telecommunications and broadband planning.

The feasibility study will focus on assessing the broadband needs of the Lake Way Region including municipal, county facilities and stakeholders, creating a “State of Broadband” report and study for the region. Magellan and MUS-AEC will work cooperatively to examine the financial feasibility of creating an enhanced and extensive broadband network for the Lake Way Region and the greater AEC membership throughout the MUS-AEC footprint. Magellan will deliver a needs’ assessment; current state of the broadband in the market; services availability mapping, state of market competition and complete financial study and business plan and operational model.

Magellan Advisors’ President John Honker added, “We applaud the MUS and AEC for recognizing the importance of available, accessible, reliable and competitive broadband for the region and the part it plays in economic development, improved healthcare, education and a the overall quality of life."

Yuma County and the Cities of Yuma and Wray
Yuma County, Colo., and the Cities of Yuma and Wray have partnered with Magellan Advisors to develop a plan to bring abundant, affordable and sustainable broadband to their communities.

Magellan’s staff of expert broadband planners will bring their knowledge and experience to the project as they collaborate with city officials, local leaders, stakeholders and local providers to assess opportunities to expand broadband access in the region. An important goal of the project is to create a broadband strategy for Yuma communities that will support economic, social, quality of life and rural access goals both now and in the future.

Magellan will help the Yuma communities determine a range of options to consider which will improve access and expand infrastructure to reach each city and the underserved portions of the county. Magellan will assess the most feasible business model options taking into account the roles that public and private organizations may play in the project. Magellan’s study will also provide a deep financial sustainability analysis of various options, potential funding sources, grant opportunities and private funding that may contribute to the overall plan to expand services in the communities.

Magellan will develop individualized plans for each community, with real world, achievable strategies that they can follow to enhance local broadband services. “We are honored to serve the needs of fellow Coloradans to bring advanced broadband services to rural communities on the Eastern Plains” stated John Honker, President & CEO of Magellan Advisors.
