Nawras Launches FTTH Pilot Project in Oman

  • FTTH
MUSCAT, OMAN Nawras, Oman’s communications provider, announced a pilot project with about 200 customers to test its new fiber-to-the-home services. For a three-month period, customers will be able to experience FTTH services with download speeds of between 10 Mbps and 100 Mbps, free of charge.

Nawras has benefited from a water reuse project that the government-owned Haya Water Company is implementing. Nawras has been laying cables in the trenches that Haya digs for its project – a cost-effective way to build an FTTH network.

Nawras plans to trial four FTTH pricing plans, each offering a variety of speeds, to fine-tune its offerings before the full commercial launch. “Obtaining customer feedback is always of great importance to our caring company,” says project manager Said Al Shanfari. “The launch of new products and services incorporates comments and experiences gathered during the planning stages to ensure that final offerings reflect real customer needs.”

The company is a member of the Qtel Group, the leading regional telecommunications group based in Qatar, with a presence in 17 markets and a customer base of more than 77 million.
