NEBRASKA CITY, NE - The Nebraska City City Council has unanimously approved a contract with Spiral Communications to handle the city's broadband services. Spiral, which is based in Glenwood, Iowa, offers FTTH solutions to rural communities. The city plans to boosts its economic prospects by offering to top broadband speeds to its residents and businesses.
According to Craig Hagerau, vice president of development at Sprial, the buildout will begin in June 2014 with businesses coming online later that summer. "The buildout will continue for two to three years with neighborhoods coming online as residents express interest through signups," says Hagerau. "The FTTH service will eventually reach 500 businesses and 2872 homes with available speeds of up to 1 Gbps."
